SIGNS OF THE TIMES

“…Ye can discern the face of the sky; but can ye not discern the signs of the times?” -Matthew 16:3b

History repeats itself because most folks fail to learn from it. Most Americans fail to learn from U.S. history because what little history is taught in public schools is filled with half truths. But as my former pastor used to say, a half truth is a whole lie. Most Americans, for example, don’t realize the last time this country was as divided as it is today, 11 Southern states decided they could no longer support a power-hungry federal government constantly usurping their Constitutional rights as sovereign states or the growing federal intrusion into the private lives of their citizens. Sound familiar? The people of these states chose to voluntarily leave the union their forefathers had voluntarily joined. There were, however, serious consequences for exercising their Constitutional right to leave the old union.

What followed was four years of bloody, no-so-civil war that cost this country about one million lives, if you count the battlefield dead, those who died from sickness, disease and starvation, and the civilian casualties so little of which has ever been recorded by revisionist historians.

Mr. Lincoln’s War Against the Southern People did not bring about an end to slavery, despite what public school textbooks and Lincoln apologists tell us. Fewer than 15 percent of Southerners owned any slaves, and yet these professional liars have succeeded in propagating a 150-year lie that Southerners were fighting to defend slavery, and that Adolf, I mean, Abraham Lincoln, was the great emancipator, their martyred messiah. The average American has no idea Lincoln was a consummate racist who voted not to allow African-Americans to settle in his state (Illinois) and strongly advocated deporting all blacks back Africa or to the Caribbean.

The man who eloquently spoke of malice toward none, fought a vicious, undeclared war without the consent of Congress, sending an invading army into Southern states that waged war, not simply with Confederate soldiers and sailors but against innocent civilians. On his orders, his demonic forces burned Southern cities, homes, businesses and even churches. To silence his opposition in the North, he jailed dissenters without charge, shut down newspapers critical of his despotic policies, rigged state and local elections, deported his most outspoken critic in Congress and even ordered the arrest of the Chief Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court. In true Orwellian fashion, Lincoln felt the need to destroy the Constitution in order to save it.

The man who filled his army with socialist refugees from Europe’s failed socialist revolutions of the 1840s and whose centralist government became the model for all other 19th century socialists is the same man Americans call Honest Abe. Were it not for the death toll Lincoln caused, including the nation our forefathers founded, the Lincoln myth, as Thomas J. DiLorenzo calls it, would be funny.

Another funny twist to the myth is that the signs of the times are pointing to history repeating itself. Not only has the federal government gotten nearly three-quarters of the American people bitterly angry as Chuck Baldwin recently explained, the new messiah frequently compares himself to Mr. Enloe’s illegitimate offspring. That’s not funny. It’s scary. I’ll explain why in a moment.

By the way, most of the former slaves were not freed. They merely exchanged one master for another – just as their brethren had done in Northern states like New York, which did not end slavery until the late 1850’s. And the precious union was not saved but destroyed. States held together by force may be indivisible as claimed in the pledge, but they’re not united. Unity – like marriage – must be voluntary. These 50 states (57, if you went to school in Chicago), are nothing more than provinces of an all-power, Big Brother government.

The ties that bound all states to this unconstitutional union have been rotting since the day they were put in place. And all the signs suggest that today’s political turmoil is tearing these tattered bonds, deepening the divide between those who want government to protect the national borders then otherwise leave them alone and those who want government to be and do all things for them and everybody else (where the everybody else—a.k.a., middle class—pays for it). All the signs are pointing to another civil war, one that would make the last one look like a schoolyard fistfight.
You don’t agree? Maybe you’re one of the millions of Americans who have trouble reading anything, so it’s little wonder you can’t read the signs of the times. If you can read though, please consider these facts:

1. One immediate consequence to the last civil war was public schools, which were started by Unitarians (humanists) and socialists in the northeast in the early 1800s but with little success. The Yankee victory in the South gave them a living laboratory to carry out their plan to re-educate all Americans, starting with Southern children, teaching them what they wanted them to learn or not learn. Until then, most children were taught at home and were able to read and write and think for themselves. Today, public school kids know all about safe sex and can quote nonsense propaganda about saving the Earth from capitalists, but if they can read at all, they can’t explain what they’ve read and can’t explain what they’re thinking in writing because they’re vocabularies are too weak to articulate their thoughts. If you ever wonder what America’s future looks like, spend a few hours in a public school classroom. The federal government – which controls all public schools – has the power to ration knowledge and in doing so, control the minds of each generation! Three years ago, I recorded what I learned in public school classrooms as a teacher then what I learned about the public school system after I left the classroom. You can read a little bit of what I learned in my book, Legally STUPiD.

THE SEVEN DEADLY SINS OF PUBLIC EDUCATION

Why Johnny Can't Read and why Johnny doesn't have to read

America is rapidly becoming George Orwell’s fictional totalitarian state, Oceania. That’s because many Americans have accepted their surreal role as proles. Proles [short for proletarians] are that class of citizens who are willing to let someone else do their thinking for them, so long as that someone else provides for their basic needs and temporal desires. Like wandering sheep, proles are the willingly ignorant, the dumb on purpose – the stupid.

“….From the proletarians [proles] nothing is to be feared. Left to themselves, they will continue from generation to generation and from century to century, working, breeding, and dying, not only without any impulse to rebel, but without the power of grasping that the world could be other than it is….What opinions the masses [proles] hold, do not hold, is looked on as a matter of indifference. They [proles] can be granted intellectual liberty because they have no intellect…” (Orwell 173). [Emphasis added.]
About 40% of Americans can best be described as functionally illiterate. That means they may be able to read [a little] but can’t understand what they’ve read – like ballot box instructions – or perform simple addition and subtraction without the aid of a calculator or computer. But does that mean 40% of Americans are proles? Ignorance alone is not the primary characteristic of a prole. It’s a willingness to be or be kept ignorant.

We’ve all experienced a time when a sales clerk couldn’t give us back correct change without that computerized cash register. Your total was $17.17. You gave her a $20 bill then gave her a quarter, expecting back $3. 08 in change, rather than $2.83. You know you can’t do that.

Here’s another example: I love peach milkshakes, something Hardee’s used to have on its menu here in North Carolina until a few years ago. Peach shakes stayed on its menu in the Peach State though, so I always made a point during my annual pilgrimage to stop at Hardee’s near my family’s hometown in southwest Georgia.

When I stopped by recently, I purposely asked the young lady if they still had peach milkshakes on the menu. She said “Yes.” I repeated the word ‘peach.’ She said, “Yeah, peach.” So I placed my order, but when I got my ‘orange’ milkshake, I complained that she’d told me they still had peach milkshakes. She seemed dumbfounded when I asked her why my peach shake tasted like orange. “They be the same,” she said.

I’m glad this young lady isn’t a surgeon, soldier, nuclear scientist, preacher, police officer, etc. Neurology and proctology. They be the same. Islamic terrorists and fundamentalist Christians. They be the same.

With such a limited knowledge base, what do you suppose folks like her are able to do for themselves? She apparently can’t handle a fast food job. Maybe she should run for political office.

Most of her employment opportunities and life itself are limited to the following:

“….heavy physical work [manual labor, low wage jobs], the care of home and children [lots of children, few responsible fathers], petty quarrels with neighbors, films [entertainment], football [all sports] [and] beer [or illegal drugs]….[will fill] up the horizons of their [empty] minds [and lives]….Even when they [become] discontented, as they sometimes [will], their discontent [leads] nowhere, because, being without general ideas, they [can] only focus on petty specific grievances [high prices and low wages]. Larger evils [like modified teaching strategies, state-prescribed drugs and lowered expectations which lead to lower achievement] invariably [escape] their notice” (62). [Emphasis added.]
But even Americans with some technical skills have been conditioned to set aside their ability to think on their own. Is it possible that someone in academia, big business, the entertainment industry, government courts & bureaucracies, the news media, mega-church corporations & cults and subversive organizations are telling them what and how to think about religious, social, economic, education and political issues?

Obviously, I can’t discuss each of the principal malefactors behind the real-life concept Orwell called Newspeak. I’ll focus on what I know for now and document further research on the others later. I’ll call it Principals of Newspeak.

But have you ever wondered why we call unborn babies fetuses, rather than babies? You can kill a fetus but not a baby. That would be wrong. One hundred years ago, ‘gay’ meant ‘happy,’ but today it describes the politically correct lifestyle of sodomites. Why is it though that every time we see gays in the news, they don’t appear to be very happy at all? Who conditioned us to accept these subverted, NARAL definitions for babies and perverts? Who’s controlling how you think about a particular issue?

I’ll discuss the first group listed above, or at least part of it. Academia consists of more than just public and private schools but also colleges and research centers.

I won’t talk about the history of public schools. If you want that, I very strongly recommend Bev Eakman’s Educating for the New World Order, John Taylor Gatto’s Underground History of American Education or Charlotte Iserbyt’s the deliberate dumbing down of america. I also won’t discuss research data and statistics either, but if that’s what you want, I highly recommend Dr. Samuel L. Blumenfeld’s The Whole Language/CBE Fraud, E.D. Hirsch’s Schools We Need, Joel Turtel’s Public Schools, Public Menace, Dr. Bruce Shortt’s The Harsh Truth About Public Schools, Marlin Maddoux’ Public Education Against America or Charles Sykes’ Dumbing Down Our Kids.

How did many Americans become functionally illiterate? It all starts with reading. If children never learn to read, they can’t read to learn. And if they’re not equipped for independent study, they can be controlled – just like Orwell’s proles.

As surely as knowledge is built on knowledge, prole-producing teaching strategies are built one upon the other. Listed below are the seven most insidious teaching strategies ever devised to dumb-down and thereby control the masses. I call them The Seven Deadly Sins of Public Education:

Whole Language Reading
By taking advantage of minority and low income parents who tend to be less educated and whose children are less likely to hear them speak correct grammar or enunciate words properly, this strategy says some children are going to have trouble with phonics, which will require them to learn 44 phonetic sounds, teaching them to sound out letters, groups of letters then words until, by the end of the 4th grade, they will have developed a 24,000 word vocabulary. But when using Deconstructionists’ whole language method, which requires kids to memorize whole words presented to them on flash cards or other media, by the end of the 4th grade, they’ll have amassed a measly 1,600 word vocabulary! Their vocabularies will be short, and they won’t be able to read, really read, but they’ll be made to feel really good about their stupidity.

Holistic Grading
Tied in with the above strategy, those same children of minority and disadvantaged students who haven’t learned correct grammar or word usage and who, without phonics, have never learned proper spelling rules or sentence structure will have great difficulty with writing. To compensate for their poor writing tests and essay scores, teachers are told not to grade students on the above shortcomings. Teachers are to consider whether the child kinda, sorta answered the prompt and assess the total impression of the child’s writing. Of course, this will not make the child a better writer, but he’ll have great self-esteem.

Learning Disability Labels
He or she is usually a minority child with no mental disability and with otherwise normal intelligence, but his or her (usually his) below normal academic performance requires him or her to be labeled as learning disabled. There’s simply no other option! We must rule out motivation because every child wants to learn. Ignore rumors of dumbed-down teaching strategies that have starved this child of needed core knowledge [like reading and writing skills]. This child must be issued a learning disability label (IEP/license) and all further instruction must be modified so this child won’t be required to learn. [NOTE: Implicit with one of these labels (BED – Behavior & Emotion Disability) is state-prescribe drugs [like Ritalin], which are dispensed liberally upon children, usually boys, said to have ADD or ADHD (Attention Deficit Disorder or Attention Deficit-Hyperactivity Disorder). Boys, especially minority boys, are singled out for special labels and/or medication. Ask yourself, ‘Why are boys targeted by modern teaching? Why would someone want boys to be more like girls?’]

Learning Style Labels
Everybody’s different. We are a diverse people. Some of us learn by seeing, some by hearing, some by activity/doing, but only a few by reading. That’s true. Really! Some kids never learn to read (See Whole Language), especially the minority boys targeted above; so, as they enter high school, they now can’t read to learn. No remedial training is necessary though; the teacher must now read to/for these students. Oh, these diverse learners are only unofficially labeled [no IEP], but that’s just a technicality.

Group Learning
The minority student labeled as diverse above and the one labeled LD need help. They can’t read or write, thanks to the first two strategies; so, here’s the plan: For every class assignment or project, we’ll put these special students with motivated students [via mixed ability grouping] who can read. The latter will do all the work, but all students will get credit for doing it. Everybody cooperates and No Child gets Left Behind.

Thematic Visualization
By this point, most of your disadvantaged kids have some kind of label, or they are severely lacking a lot of core knowledge. You simply can’t expect them to read assignments or take notes, much less write formal essays. What you must do is allow them to draw pictures or cut out paper dolls, or in some visual way express how they feel about a theme or major concept in the story you read to/for them. Just draw it!

Block Scheduling
These kids aren’t going to learn anything now anyway, what with all the above strategies. We may as well get as many of them through The System as fast as we can. Instead of 180 50-minute classes per course, we’ll let them have 90 90-minute classes per course. Their attention spans will limit them to about half of what could have been taught, so let’s at least try to save the tax payers some money. You believe that, right?

Now to implement these prole-producing teaching strategies, you must have cooperation from your teachers. That was slow in coming, but it too is succeeding as the old guard slowly fades away due to age but especially administrative and peer pressure.

Teachers are gauged by their class averages and failing ratings, with an assumption that low class averages and high failing rates prove the teacher is not using the above multicultural, research-based and field-tested strategies and terminology or failing to meet the needs of diverse learners. Still, there are some teachers [like me] who aren’t intimidated by their threats and biased reviews and continue to teach what kids need to learn.

To restrain dedicated teachers, administrators endeavor to fill their days with paperwork and meetings, meetings and paperwork. The paperwork involves validating or refuting the above labels. The meetings are indoctrination sessions designed to brainwash teachers to accept all of the above strategies. The idea behind this paperwork and meetings strategy is to keep teachers too busy to actually teach. Eventually, he or she will submit to Big Brother or have a stroke or heart attack or resign. Those few who still continue to resist [like me] are monitored by the Strategy Police until their thoughtcrimes ultimately bring about the end of their teaching careers.

In 1983 a government [Yes, a government study that’s critical of government schools.] published a report called A Nation At Risk, which was an ominous warning about public school failures. For nearly 25 years, our leaders have paid only lip service to that report, thus turning it into a self-fulfilling prophesy. America is now at risk of becoming a nation of proles!
