And they refuse to allow prayer in our schools, or on any government land and buildings.
Every time I see a photo of the Washington Monument, I can't help but think that, but for the Grace of God, my father almost took the top off while flying a Marine-issued corsair in from Boston about 60 years ago.
He hadn't filed a flight plan because "he knew what he was doing", but hit heavy rain approaching DC. He was flew in low, trying to see through the clouds and rain, when he said a hand touched his shoulder. Instinctively he pulled up on the throttle and as he did, a loud "whoosh" under the plane.
Realizing what had happened and a bit shook up, he radioed the tower for directions, telling them he knew right where he was. "Roger that...you're right on course" was their amused reply.
No doubt, God was his co-pilot that night, and had things been different, I wouldn't be here or my 3 sisters. So I had to call Papa last week when I heard on Glenn Beck's show what is inscribed on the east side of the pyramid capstone - Laus Deo - "Praise Be To God".
